In March, we played Suwannee Springfest for the first time -- what an experience! It was a gorgeous and FUN weekend. John got sick and couldn't sing a lick...poor kid! But we still had a great time -- hanging out with our hometown fellas, Town Mountain, The Taylor Martin Band, and The Jon Stickley Trio -- as well as saying hello to Jeb & Tara of Donna the Buffalo, the Duhks, Jim Lauderdale, Hot Rise, Grandpa's Cough Medicine, some of Lucinda Williams' band -- it's hard to remember all the folks we met. What a fun and talented group of people and the shows were incredible. And what a beautiful location.
We recently got back from Merlefest, and though we didn't play this year, we worked behind the scenes as Artist Relations Ambassadors (...I joke, though I was working in "Artist Relations"). What a weekend, catching up with old friends, watching our friends' sets, and making new friends with some new artists -- like the Front Country folks. They are awesome! Check them out. One of the highlights of the weekend was the "royal procession" as HRH Sir Dwight Yoakum was driven to the Watson Main Stage. Check our instagram for the video of that! Oh, the fun.
Look for an upcoming video and interview that will be online in July, hosted by the wonderful folks of In Blue Handmade and our friend and owner, Mary Lynn Schroeder (and Katie!) right here in Asheville. They do amazing leather work and we got to take home a couple of lovely things from their shop. That leatha is like butta! We'll post the videos ri-chere when they're up!
In other news, John and I are currently writing material for a new album. We are still working out details, but plan to record a little later this year and hope to release it next spring. You'll know as soon as we know ;)
We're going to be traveling a lot this summer -- Georgia, Kentucky, Tennessee -- and also going to some new places: West Virginia and on up into the Northeast. I've never been that far north before (other than a connecting flight -- doesn't count, does it?) though John has. We're currently working on firming up tour details and plan to hit Philadelphia, D.C., NYC, Boston, and more.
For now, there are quite a few shows in the southerly parts. We hope to see your faces soon!
