Bizarre Foods in Kentucky!
Back in April, we received an invitation to appear and perform on Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmern. They came to explore the Daniel Boone Wilderness Trail which runs through Virginia, Tennessee, and Kentucky. We are YUGE fans of the show and it meant a lot for us to be a part of highlighting Kentucky culture.
We spent the entire day on the set at Whitetail Heaven Outfitters in Nicholasville, watching folks cook and watching folks film...and then got to eat said food and be a part of said filming. Andrew and his crew were really cool; and, they are big music fans so there was a lot to talk about. We had a big time!
For the episode, they set up a turkey hunt with guide extraordinaire and turkey shaman, Kacey Mays, who took John out into the field at 4 am. Much to everyone's surprise and excitement, John got his turk -- and he was a biggun! He was really a beautiful bird.
The Turk/Kacey & John right after the kill/John with his Turk.
We got to eat turkey heart, liver, and breast they fried up. After that, we sang and performed for Andrew, the crew, and guests after we ate (it was all delicious). It was a fun day!
The Daniel Boone Wilderness Trail episode kicked off the current season of Bizarre Foods. It premiered August 1 and will continue to air until the apocalypse occurs (and probably even beyond that), so you'll be able to catch it at some point! Be sure to check The Travel Channel in your local TV guide.
It will also air the hour before next week's new episode -- which covers all things Mississippi!
