Spreading the Gospel of Southern Sound

Music Monday: Aoife O'Donovan

I'm more than a little captivated by Aoife O'Donovan (pronounced 'A-Fa' from what I can tell). What seemed like all of a sudden, she showed up on The Goat Rodeo Sessions album with the likes of Chris Thile, Yo-Yo Ma, Edgar Myer and Stuart Duncan. The album is amazing. The songs she performed with Thile are both strange and astonishingly beautiful.  Her voice is equally as haunting.

She just came out with a second solo album, Fossils , that we've been listening to on Spotify and really enjoying.  It's got a great sound to it.  I've been exploring her band, Crooked Still, too, which is worth a listen.

A few months ago we found a video of her performing Midnight on the Stormy Deep   with Michael Daves.  Good sturff!
